With a population of 72,000, New Rochelle possesses a wide variety of resources that make living there a pleasure, not the least of which is its shore line along Long Island Sound. In recent years, the City’s downtown has been enjoying a renaissance, which is rapidly restoring its status as the “Queen City of the Sound.” For a sense of what’s happening, please take a look at the City’s website (www.newrochelleny.com), particularly under “City Newsletter” and “City Soundings”.
Just one of the positive features about New Rochelle is that it’s a short commute to Grand Central Station via the New Haven Line of the Metro-North commuter railroad. In fact, a typical train trip takes only 33 minutes and service is frequent and reliable. See the schedule at www.mta.info
New Rochelle has a full complement of shopping and service outlets, churches and synagogues, civic organizations and entertainment venues. An index of some of the other information which we believe could be helpful to people considering the City as a residence is set out below. It is organized by categories which are listed alphabetically. If an entity has a website, a link to it is provided. We particularly recommend the Westchester County site at www.westchestergov.com as an excellent source for a wide variety of information. Also, for a comprehensive evaluation of the New Rochelle schools, see the NYS Department of Education report at www.nystart.gov.
