The Town of Pelham, consisting of the two villages of Pelham and Pelham Manor, is a unique Westchester community. The villages are located just north of New York City and have a total population of less than 12,000. They function as one community, in that the school system serves the entire Town (and only the Town) and just about every existing organization is open to residents of both villages.
The commuting time from Grand Central Terminal to Pelham on Metro-North's New Haven line is approximately 30 minutes and most riders are left with just a short walk to their homes. Trains leave Pelham as early as 5:30 each weekday morning and return from Grand Central as late as 1:30A.M. Weekend service is also available. http://www.mta.info/mnr/index.html
We are blessed with an outstanding school system, which features four small elementary schools, a middle school (grades seven and eight), and a high school. Since the Town covers a relatively small area, it is possible for most students to walk to school easily. Once there, they enjoy the benefits of a system that is committed to excellence.
Set out below is a catalogue of sources for information about various aspects of life in Pelham, including among many other things, information on the Pelham schools. Scanning it will give the reader an indication of the diversity of services and activities that Pelham offers its residents. Details can be obtained by going to the source listed. The catalogue is divided into the categories listed below and is arranged alphabetically; in many cases, a link to a website maintained by a group or company is provided, but where no such website exists, a phone number is given. We particularly recommend the Westchester County site at www.westchestergov.com as an excellent source for a wide variety of information. Also, for a comprehensive evaluation of the Pelham schools, see the NYS Department of Education report at www.nystart.gov.
